Keeping Fit!

This term we have started a new initiative - walking or running a mile at least 3 times a week. This came about because we heard of a school in Scotland who do a "Daily Mile", by going round a track in their school grounds. They have some of the fittest children in Britain and research has shown that their concentration levels have improved in lessons.

We have set up our own course around the playground.  The aim is for everyone to walk or run at least 6 laps in 20 minutes. Of course some people run and manage to do that  - and more. The important thing is that we have regular exercise and fun!

We have named this activity "Walk and Talk".  Before we start a teacher gives us something to think about as we run or to discuss with a friend as we walk.  It's a sociable time.

Everyone takes part in "Walk and Talk" - children, teachers, teaching assistants and visitors.

Owls and Otters are keen to know if this exercise is going to improve their fitness levels.

We have done "Beep Tests" to  measure our fitness.  This means running a distance of 20metres before the beep goes on a clock.  The more levels you achieve the faster the beep goes.

: Some Year 5s doing the Beep Test.

At the end of  term we will do this again to see if fitness levels have improved.
